Tai Chi Chuan, commonly known as Tai Chi, has played a big role in the Chinese tradition and is originally known as self-defense. Described as meditation in motion, it promotes serenity through its gentle and flowing movements. Its posture flows into the next without pause, assuring the body is in constant motion. That is why; Tai Chi is now considered a graceful form of exercise that reduces stress and other health conditions.
With Tai Chi being a spirited, self-paced method of calm physical exercise and stretching, it is starting to boom nowadays. It has various styles and each style has its own subtle emphasis on specific tai chi principles and methods. Some may focus on health maintenance, while others center on the martial arts aspects.
Tai Chi is appealing because it is inexpensive. It does not require special equipment and can be practiced indoors or out, either alone or in a group. Giving low impact and minimal stress on muscles and joints, even older adults can try this exercise!
It is definitely safe and suitable for all ages. However, pregnant women or people with joint problems, back pain, fractures and severe osteoporosis should consult for medication before trying Tai Chi because modification or avoidance of certain postures may be recommended.
