Tech firm FAME delivers an SCB unit at the Philippine General Hospital to help in mass testing for Covid 19.
GetHealthAccess.com | Tech company FAME (Futuristic Aviation and Maritime Enterprise, Inc.) and the Philippines’ Department of Science and Technology (DOST) have joined forces to manufacture and distribute the first batch of Specimen Collection Booths (SCB) to help fight Covid 19 through mass testing nationwide.
The first batch of SCBs were delivered at RITM on Thursday (April 19) and at PGH on Saturday (April 18). Installation of the SCBs was well-received by both public hospitals who are at the forefront of the country’s fight versus the Covid 19 pandemic. FAME created the design of the SCB jointly with DOST.
In a letter to DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña, the Department of Health, through OIC-Undersecretary Maria Rosario Singh Vergeire, was grateful for the DOST’s commitment to build 132 specimen collection booths, that will be distributed to various regions of the Philippines to implement mass testing, as follows:
- National Capital Region – 34 booths
- Cordillera Administrative Region – 6 booths
- Ilocos Region – 6 booths
- Cagayan Valley – 6 booths
- Central Luzon – 8 booths
- Calabarzon – 4 booths
- Mimaropa – 2 booths
- Bicol Region – 5 booths
- Western Visayas – 6 booths
- Central Visayas – 7 booths
- Eastern Visayas – 3 booths
- Zamboanga Peninsula – 10 booths
- Northern Mindanao – 5 booths
- Davao Region – 4 booths
- Soccsksargen – 3 booths
- Caraga – 4 booths
- DOH Center for Health Development Offices (select locations across the country) – 19
FAME was given a grant by DOST to manufacture the 132 SCBs by April 30.
FAME Chief Innovation Officer and Co-CEO Engr. Junjun Fetizanan, Jr. said that they intend to give out the design of the SCB as soon as they deliver the 132 units. Fetizanan added that this move will allow other manufacturers in the country to help in producing and deploying the said booths faster so as to mitigate the further spread of the Covid 19 virus.
However, FAME will retain the designs for its controller which were already in place even before the pandemic. FAME is a tech provider for the aviation and maritime industries with their LoRa-based platform that helps in fish catch documentation, among others.
