Warts removal is one the popular services offered by derma clinic and yet, it look like only few are availing those. One possible reason is the price high and its sounds high because for many warts are like moles – normal and non-contagious, but annoying. Are these facts or myths?
According to Total Dermatology, warts are not the result of lack of good hygiene, but instead caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) that can produce 50 or more type of warts. Unfortunately, warts can easily spread and pass to other persons especially if one gets ‘contact with the skin shed from wart.’
Total Dermatology added that there are six clinically kinds of warts like the ‘common’ that comes out on the fingers and hands and noticeably have bumpy surface. The other kinds are ‘plantar,’ which usually appear on the feet areas; tiny and smooth ‘flat’ or ‘plane’; ‘Genital or venereal; ‘Filiform,’ long and thim warts on the face, neck and around the eyes areas; and ‘Periungual,’ the type of warts that usually acquired by those bite their nails.
“Keep in mind that some warts can become cancerous, and some skin cancers can look like warts, so always get them checked by your doctor. Also remember, the sooner a wart is treated, the easier it will be to destroy – so don’t procrastinate,” Total Dermatology, the site of award-winning dermatologist Nissan Pilest M.D’s clinic, warned.
Meantime, the American Academy of Dermatology noted that there incidents and safe way to remove warts all by yourself like applying salicylic acid. However they also warned that it may also dangerous as some skin cancers are look-o-like of warts. They also added that person with diabetes should not involve with self-treatment warts removal, as well as those have weak immune system and have warts on their genitals and face.
“You can treat warts at home by applying salicylic acid. This medicine is available without a prescription. It comes in different forms — a gel, liquid, or plaster (pad). You should apply salicylic acid to the wart every day. Before applying the salicylic acid, be sure to soak the wart in warm water,” AAD shared.
To prevent warts on your skin, AAD advised that never touch other person’s wart, scratch at warts, and use pool shoes or flip-flops in pool areas and public showers. They added that it’s better to always dry foot warts.
